Startup Anarchy in Selfridges: 40 Ukulele Players Crashed Our Event
Calypso Rose | Head of Everything at The Indytute
My current business, The Indytute, launched in Selfridges (yippee) back in 2015. We did an ambitious 90 creative Christmas workshops in 90 days. We were meant to get sign-off for all of them but as start-up vigilantes (with a seek-forgiveness approach) we just cracked on. Day 4 we were due to have a small group of 10 ukulele players learning to play Christmas songs with our cabaret star Tricity Vogue. Well, when the time came - people just KEPT COMING... clutching their ukes. 40 learners later squeezed into the gift and bedding department - well we couldn't turn them away.
Needless to say Selfridges never asked us back.
